RIP: David Lynch, 1946-2025.

David Lynch made us think about America, and our place in it, in ways no one else has. He made us voyeurs of ourselves, which made us uncomfortable, because we are creeps. But it also entertained us, because we are fascinating. At his best, as in the films "Blue Velvet" and "Mulholland Dr." and in the original TV series "Twin Peaks," Lynch laid bare the violent, perverse, amoral, ignorant creatures we are. Yet his lens also sought out the elusive redemptive spark of naivete and even blind selflessness. So yes, he was a great artist.

By way of tribute, we offer a MetalJazz story from a few years back about David Lynch's use of Krzysztof Penderecki's music. Read it here.
