There was a memorial last Sunday for Rod Poole, the spiritually all-enveloping microtonal guitarist who was murdered in May. It was held at the Dive, just a few blocks from where the crime was committed. There was a narrative of his life story; there was live music. And there was video footage of Poole speaking, in that quietly intense way of his, about his music. The place was packed -- a lot of love there. In fact, I couldn't stay long, because I'm a little agoraphobic. But I was very glad to partake in that vibe. Rest in peace. Donations to the Rod Poole Music Fund can be sent care of Lisa Ladaw, Poole's wife. Email me at info@metaljazz.com if you want the address.
